Several schools within the state offer a curriculum for those interested in a career assisting a licensed pharmacist within a hospital or retail setting. Northwestern College, Everest College, and the Pharmacy Tech School offer these programs. Blessing Hospital in partnership with Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing also has a one-semester program. This area of study can also be found at the College of DuPage, Oakton and Richland community colleges, and several City Colleges of Chicago campuses.
The curriculum for these programs usually includes an overview of basic physiology, drugs, drug interactions, various practice settings, and information regarding daily operations within pharmacies. The course of study may be structured as a certificate program or a major field in an associate’s degree offering.
